CBT Training

To undertake a CBT you must first obtain a licence form which are available at most Post Offices and at Gov UK

At 16 you can ride a moped up to 50cc after passing a CBT (Compulsory Basic Training) course. You must display L-Plates and are not allowed to carry a pillion passenger.

At 17 you can ride a motorcycle up to 125cc. You must have a CBT certificate, display L-Plates, and you are not allowed to carry a passenger.

Riders holding a full car license before 01/02/2001 are permitted to ride a 50cc moped on the road without taking a CBT. With a CBT, they can ride up to a 125cc. Full car licence holders issued after 01/02/2001 must complete a CBT for 50cc and 125cc mopeds or motorcycles.

A CBT certificate is valid for two years. The CBT will have to be retaken if both theory and practical tests are not passed within two years. Once you have successfully completed a CBT, you will be issued with your certificate (DL196), you can carry on to take additional training to pass your test and qualify for a full motorcycle licence. You will also be required to take a theory test.

If you are considering undertaking the London Taxi Knowledge on two wheels and you aren’t already on a full bike licence, you will need to undertake CBT training.
