Personal information collected on this site

This website collects and uses personal information in the following reasons:

Visitor tracking

This site uses Google Analytics (GA) to track user interaction and we use this data to understand how people find our site and how we can improve the offerings and site setup to better serve our visitors.

We consider Google to be a third party data processor and although Google records your geographical location, device, internet browser and operating system, none of this personally identifies you to us. Google also records your computer’s IP address which could be used to personally identify you but Google do not grant us access to this data.

GA makes use of cookies, details of which can be found on Google’s developer guides.

You can stop Google from tracking any part of your visit by disabling cookies in your web browser’s settings.

This data is used to identify you as a contributor to the comment section and will not passed on to any of the third party. Only the supplied name will be visible on the website although you are linked to a Gravatar account, your Gravatar photo will also be shown.

Your comment and it’s associated personal data will remain on this site until we see fit to either remove the comment or remove the blog post. Should you wish to have the comment or personal data deleted, please email us.

Please avoid entering personal information in comments that you submit on this website. If you’re under 16 years of age you MUST obtain parental consent before posting a comment on our blog.

If you purchase anything from our webstore your purchase, name, email and postal address will be stored on the website database. This information is not currently encrypted or anonymous. This information is passed to PayPal for payment processing. We consider PayPal to be a third party processor and your information will be stored on the PayPal server until we see fit to remove the comment or PayPal removes your information. Your postal address will be used for dispatching your goods and will not be sold or shared with any other parties other than the courier we use to purchase the postage.

Contact forms and email links

If you contact us via a form or email link, none of the data you provide will be stored by this website or passed to any third party data processor unless specified in the consent section of the form. Instead the data will be collated into an email and sent to us over the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP). The SMTP servers we use are protected by TLS (also known as SSL) meaning the email content is encrypted before being sent over the internet. Email content is decrypted by our internal computers.

If you sign up to one of our newsletters, the details you submit will be forwarded to MailChimp, Honda or Suzuki (depending on the sign up form) who provide us with email services for marketing purposes. We consider these vendors to be third party data processors.

Your email address will stay on the MailChimp/Honda/Suzuki database for as long as we continue to use these services for email marketing or until you specifically request removal from the list. You can do this by unsubscribing using the unsubscribe links contained in the newsletter we send you or by contacting us at anytime.

Visitors under 16 years of age MUST obtain parental consent before joining our email newsletter.

While your email address remains within the relevant marketing database, you will receive periodic (approximately once a month) newsletter emails from us.

How we store your personal information

If you submit a comment to a blog post or make a purchase on this website some personal information will be stored within this website’s database. These are currently the only occasions where personal data is stored on this website. This data is currently stored in an identifiable fashion; a limitation of the content management system that this website is built on (WordPress). As soon as we can we will move your data to a pseudonymous fashion meaning that the data would require additional processing using a separately stored ‘key’ before it could be used to identify an individual.

Pseudonymisation is a recent requirement of the GDPR which many web application developers are currently working to fully implement. We are committed to keeping it as a high priority and will implement it on this website as soon as we are able to.
