Company History

For those that remember 1966 you’ll remember all the great innovations motorcycling has seen and how the industry has changed and adapted over the years. We’re no different. We started business as a Raleigh bicycle shop in Rush Green where ‘John’ of Romford was a salesman. He’d moved out of Hackney and the East End to start a new life out ‘in the sticks’ working for (then) Sissely’s of Romford. When the owner retired John took out a bank loan to purchase the business and grew it from there.

Initially selling push bikes the new business dabbled in resprayed Vespas and Lambrettas during the ever popular Mod Scene in the 1960’s and even ventured into used cars and children’s toys until he settled selling motorcycles and scooters permanently alongside the bicycles. John’s of Romford grew from there into what it is today.

Sadly, we lost John after a short battle with cancer in 2003. He passed the running of the business to his son, Mike, and to the oldest Saturday girl in the industry (at 80 years young) – his wife Shirley. Today we’re still going strong mainly down to the foundations that John put in place, the hard work and dedication our staff have shown over the years and of course our very faithful customers!
