Finally, it’s here! The 2018 biking season is here after what can only be described as an appalling winter. The weather is improving. Last weekend saw the return of MotoGP in Qatar. This weekend welcomes World Superbikes at Motul Thailand WSBK. It’s Adventure week at our Honda showroom and we have a huge demo sale on at our Suzuki showroom – so we can safely say that this season is off to a flyer!
Once you’ve wheeled your pride and joy out of the garage, checked her over and felt that smile spread across your face you need somewhere to go… Here are our five top places to ride out to from the London/Essex area over the next few glorious months!
Bike Shed Visit the Bike Shed website
Relatively new in the biker haunts stakes, but has been growing in popularity over the past few years. They have a cafe/restaurant on site as well as show bikes, a shop and plenty of other petrol heads to chew the fat with. On race weekends they even have a big screen to show the race meets.
Ace Cafe Visit the Ace Cafe website
The Daddy of bike cafes. Known around the world and easily recognised by the checkerboard and Ace (of Spades) logo, the Ace Cafe hosts all kinds of events and group interests from hot rods, classic bikes, classic cars, full spec race bikes and even music/entertainment evenings. The original site has been going 80+ years and has spawned many franchises around the world, but if you want a destination around London, this is one of the places to be!
We’ve had quite a few good rideouts to Hastings over the years. That long drop down to the seafront on the A21, the literal sea of bikes on a bike weekend that sprawls along the promenade and the throngs of riders in the cafes getting their bacon rolls and full English breakfasts. The hum of engines and the buzz of banter in the air – it warms the cockles!
Burnham Bends and Cafe
Think you’re the next Marc Marquez, Dani Pedrosa or Valentino Rossi? The infamous ‘Burnham Bends’ in Burnham-On-Crouch is the place to test yourself (within the limits of the law you understand). These are fun weaving bends that makes biking worth while. It’s what your machine was made to do! Check out those bends on the route one group took
Epping forest / High Beach Tea Hut
If you say you’re going to the tea hut in one of our showrooms that can only mean one thing – you’re going out to High Beach! It is the place to be. The Original Tea Hut has been there since 1930, but there are several others that have sprung up in competition. The hardened bikers amongst us would say this is the only tea hut that matters. Then again, it doesn’t matter which one you pull up at on a fine biking weekend – there will be plenty of guys and gals down there to talk all things two-wheels with you. Check out Devitts guide
If you are going out in the coming months, pop in and see us on a Saturday and let us know how you got on and where you went. Share your pics on our Facebook or Twitter pages and let others know the details of your rideouts!
