Auto Trader Bike Awards 2017

By Honda, New model, Suzuki, ,

It’s that time of year again – it’s Auto Trader award season!

Last year Honda had a very good year last year winning bike of the year with the stunning Africa Twin; as well as adventure bike of the year (again Africa Twin), commuter of the year (NC750X) and A1 bike of the year (CB125F). We knew the Africa Twin was a winner as an adventure bike, but to see off all the competition and scoop the big prize was an impressive feat!

This year there is a lot of competition. We’ve seen Honda release the new 2017 Fireblade, impressive commuter/off-road hybrid X-ADV and Rebel 500 as well as updated some models like the CB/CBR650F (see the full line-up). Suzuki also set about relaunching their super sport GSX-R1000, a revised 750 model in the GSX-S750 and it’s ever fun to ride V-Strom line-up; not to mention the smaller capacity models launching later this month (October 2017): the long awaited GSX-R125, GSX-S125 and V-Strom 250!

When all was said and done the judges have to make their decision and this is the bottom line from 2017!!:

Best Super Sports – GSX-R1000

Other than the sheer power the award was given for it’s value. Compared to other bikes in the same class it’s got all the grunt for loads less money. They also rated the design, riding position and equipment – specifically noting the VVT (variable valve timing) system: “…999cc four-cylinder unit is 199bhp powerful and yet impressively flexible, too…”

Best Adventure – V-Strom 650

The judges were all over the improved performance and comfortable riding position. The DL650 also was noted again for it’s excellent value for money: “… It’s easy to ride, comfortable over distance, nimble around town, decent fun, and able to carry luggage and pillion as well – and all for bargain money…”.

Best A2 – Honda Rebel

We loved the introduction of this entry-level machine and so did the judges. The forgiving 500cc engine and the very easy to ride position and handling of the Rebel meant it ticked all the boxes for new riders: “…lower (690mm) single seat. The riding position, though, is more upright roadster than laid-back custom, and the ergonomics, in typical Honda fashion, are fastidiously sorted…”.

Here’s what Auto Trader thought of it:

We would obviously have put a few more of the 2017 models in the mid-range and A1 categories, but then we are a little bit biased! Here are the full results on the Auto Trader website:

If you wanted to discuss any of the models in this article then feel free to give either of our Honda (01708 746293) or Suzuki (01708 754775) teams a call, we’d be happy to hear from you!
